i once came across an american tourist. she said, “china has a history of five
thousand years, but the us only has a history of 200 years. five thousand years ago,
china took the lead in the world, and now it is the us that is leading.”my heart
was deeply touched by these words. it is true that were still a developing nation,
but it doesnt mean that we can despise (鄙视) ourselves. we have such a long-standing
history, we have such abundant resources, we have such intelligent and diligent people,
and we have enough to be proud of.

And I want to say something to the schoolchildren of who were watching the live coverage of the shuttle's take-off. I know it's hard to understand, but sometimes painful things like this happen. It's all part of the proceof exploration and discovery. It's all part of taking a chance and expanding man's horizons. The future doesn't belong to the fainthearted; it belongs to the brave. The Challenger crew was pulling us into the future, and we'll continue to follow them.
We'll continue our quest in space. There will be more shuttle flights and more shuttle crews and, yes, more volunteers, more civilians, more teachers in space. Nothing ends here; our hopes and our journeys continue.
