Hello, everyone! my name is Lu Yi .I am 13 years old. I am in Class4 Grade7. I am a top student in my class. I like all my subjects, but I like English best. Now, I?ll begin. My topie is:
What success means to me?
Once upon a time, an old rich woman left all her property to the person who could answer her question correctly. Her question was this “what is the most important thing for a person who wants to succeed?” To my surprise, the answer was not money, not power, not even opportunity, but “ambition”.
Why is ambition so important? A person without ambition is like a near-sighted lion. All the things in the distance appear blurred. No matter how strong it is, it can?t go far.
A lion lives to rule the whole plain. A person must prove that “I am a king here”, at least you are the king of yourself.
Nowadays, the world is very competitive. Even if you get to the top of your own field, there might be still someone better than you. So we have to ask ourselves: what is the proof of success? I believe it is doing something for this world.
Remember: As a successful person, in addition to ambition, the other key you
must hold is love. When you look back at history, you?ll find you were standing on the shoulders of the giants. You have enjoyed what they had left you. So we should live to work for the improvement of the world. And most importantly, it is a new beginning for your life, a beginning where you are going to make new desicisions, take new actions, make new friends, and take your life to a totally unprecedented level! You know all this is real as long as you are confident,passionate and committed! And you are confident, you are passionate, you are committed!
You will no longer fear making new sounds, showing new facial expressions, using your body in new ways,approaching new people, and asking new questions. You will live every single day of your life with absolute passion, and you will show your passion through the words you speak and the actions you take. You will focus all your time and effort on the most important goals of your life. You will never succumb to challenges of hardships. You will never waver in your pursuit of excellence. when I finally arrived on campus, I was in for a surprise. In fact, I was stunned. I had never before in my life felt poor. As a scholarship student, suddenly, I was surrounded by people who were so astoundingly rich! I was also fascinated by this and other differences C different faiths, politics, ethnicities, and culture.
And sure, at times it was uncomfortable. There were many moments I just wanted to turn around and go back home to my mother’s warm embrace C and also her great home cooking!
And like every one of you…every one of you, I made the best, most important choice of my life: I would pick up the threads of differences to weave myself a new community.
This would become my cause, my mission, my identity. I had found my purpose, rooted in beloved community.
I was inspired by the work of Dr. Martin Luther King. He called upon us all to embrace inclusion, love, and justice. He preached the soul force of nonviolent protest.
He warned against the perils of tribalism, of clinging to the familiar and holding sacred the status quo.
King famously addressed his…go ahead…he famously addressed his “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” not to his jailers, but to his “fellow clergymen.”
He challenged them to reject the status quo. In King’s words, we find the essence of beloved community, recognizing that: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.”
