Drinking alcohol in moderation is beneficial to the heart, a new study has revealed.
Those who drink wine, spirits or beer regularly are less prone to heart failure and heart attacks than people who rarely or never drink.
Three to five drinks a week are part of a heart-healthy lifestyle, scientists concluded.
Drinking a little alcohol every day can be part of a healthy lifestyle, Imre Janszky, a professor of social medicine at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology said.
When consumed in moderation, alcohol does more good than harm, he added.
And he said, it doesn’t matter whether a person drinks wine, liquor or beer.
It’s primarily the alcohol that leads to more good cholesterol, among other things,’ he said.“最主要的是,酒精能够产生更多有益胆固醇。”他说。
But alcohol can also cause higher blood pressure, so it’s best to drink moderate amounts relatively often.’“但酒精同时会造成高血压,所以,最好是规律饮酒,且每次适量。”
With colleagues from the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Professor Janszky and his team have published two studies looking at the link between alcohol and heart health.
The most recent focuses on heart failure, while another, published in September, looks at acute myocardial infarction.
In both cases, research shows people who regularly drink alcohol have better cardiovascular health than those who consume little or no alcohol.
The studies showed that those who drank three to five drinks each week were 33 per cent less prone to heart failure than those who abstained, or drank infrequently.
In the case of heart attacks, the risk was reduced by 28 per cent with each additional one-drink increment.
Researchers said the findings were no surprise.
There is a general consensus among the scientific community that three to five drinks a week can be good for the heart.
The relationship between alcohol and heart health has been studied in many countries, including the USA and southern European nations,’ Professor Janszky said.“很多国家已经研究了酒精和心脏健康的关系,包括美国和南欧一些国家,”央斯基教授说。
The conclusions have been the same, but the drinking patterns in these countries are very different than in Norway.
In countries like France and Italy, very few people don’t drink.
It raises the question as to whether earlier findings can be fully trusted, if other factors related to non-drinkers might have influenced research results.“这样就出了问题:如果不喝酒的人有一些其他因素影响研究结果,那么是否能够完全相信之前的发现?
It may be that these are people who previously had alcohol problems, and who have stopped drinking completely.’“有可能这些人之前有酒精相关问题,后来完全戒酒了。”
For this reason, the researchers wanted to examine the theory within a Norwegian population where a significant population drinks rarely or not at all.
In the study looking at myocardial infarction, 41 per cent of participants reported that they did not drink at all, or that they consumed less than half an alcoholic beverage each week.
Both studies are based on the longitudinal HUNT 2 Nord-Tr?ndelag Health Study conducted between 1995 and 1997.
The study which examined the relationship between heart failure and alcohol followed 60,665 people enrolled on the HUNT study研究心力衰竭和酒精关系的调查跟踪了HUNT研究中登记在册的60665人。
At the time, between 1995 and 1997, all participants had no incidence of heart failure.
Of those, 1,588 developed heart failure during the period of the study, which ended in 2008.
The risk was highest for those who rarely or never drank alcohol, and for those who had an alcohol problem.
The more often participants consumed alcohol within normal amounts, the lower their risk of heart failure turned out to be.researchers noted.
Those who drank five or more times a month had a 21 per cent lower risk compared to non-drinkers and those who drank little, while those who drank between one and five times a month had a two per cent lower risk.
Professor Janszky said: ’I’m not encouraging people to drink alcohol all the time.
We’ve only been studying the heart, and it’s important to emphasize that a little alcohol every day can be healthy for the heart.“我们只研究了心脏方面,强调每天饮适量酒精对心脏健康有益是很重要的。
But that doesn’t mean it’s necessary to drink alcohol every day to have a healthy heart.’“但这并不意味着要想有健康的心脏就必须每天喝酒。”
In the heart attack study, 58,827 participants were categorized by how much and how often they drank.
Of the study participants, 2,966 experienced an acute myocardial infarction(AMI)between 1995 and the end of 2008.2966名参与者在1995年至2008年底间发生过急性心肌梗塞。
The adjusted analyses showed that each additional one-drink increment decreased the risk of AMI by 28 per cent.
The researchers stressed that few participants in the study drank particularly much, so they cannot conclude that high alcohol intake protects against heart attack or heart failure.
They also encourage looking at the findings in a larger context, since the risk of a number of other diseases and social problems can increase as a result of higher alcohol consumption.
For example, the researchers observed that the risk of dying from various types of cardiovascular disease increased with about five drinks a week and up, while those who drank more moderate amounts had the lowest risk.
High alcohol consumption was also strongly associated with an increased risk of death from liver disease.
The study looking at heart failure was published in the Journal of Cardiology, while the research focusing on actue myocardial infarction was published in the Journal of Internal Medicine.
I'm greatly honored to have this oppotunity to stand here and give a speach on the following two pieces of news. The first one is about sports.David Beckham will reject the chance to make one final appearance for England, a person familiar with the former captain's plans said on Thursday.Coach Fabio Capello announced on Wednesday 35-year-old Beckham was too old to continue playing competitively for England, but offered him an opportunity to say farewell to fans in an exhibition match. And the next is an international news: Baghdad suicide bomb hits army recruits, kills 61.A suicide bomber sat for hours Tuesday among hundreds of army recruits before detonating nail-packed explosives strapped to his body, killing 61 people and casting new doubt on the ability of Iraqi forces as US troops head home.Bodies of bloodied young men, some still clutching job applications in their hands, were scattered on the ground outside the military headquarters in central Baghdad. Some of the estimated 1,000 men who had gathered there before dawn for a good spot in line were so desperate for work they returned hours after being treated at hospitals for injuries in the attack. So much of my report, thank you for listening.Year 2008 is a very important year to China. We looked forward the year 2008 for a long time and finally, it comes. But things go contrary to our wishes,We are facing new challenges and opportunities in 2008.The following list is the top 10 issues that appear in China.1.The rise of price. Our economy has kept a double-digit两位数 rise,it's a very exciting thing for us.As prices continued to rise, people finally realize that the money has become more and more depreciatory. 2007 is great year of the Chinese stockholders股民, The stock rises 6,123 points rapidly but the stock market

How to protect the environment?
Nowadays, more and more people realize it`s necessary and important to protect the environment. Also, there are some people who don`t pay attention to hygiene and they can`t stop littering the rubbish casually or spitting everywhere all the time.
And in addition, there are a few factories often cutting down the trees, discharging chemicals and dirty water and so on.And it causes many problems like the Greenhouse Effect. If they do these day by day and our life will be harder and harder,so we have to stop them.
To stop them we can put up commonweal advertisements and tell them the detriment of destroying the environment. So we can start from now to make a beautiful life.
Thanks!
Hi everybody.
Back in the years when I was only six years old or so, I had my first taste of English. It seemed very strange to me. At the very beginning, I was not so interested in this strange language. Moreover, the English TV program always took time awayfrommy cartoon shows. As a result, I started to hate English.
Time flies. Things completely changed at theendof my primary school life. In the last exam of the whole primary school period, I did so well in English that I got a full mark. I found that I could do a perfect job in English if I put my heart on it. This exam seems to be a turning point on my road of studying English and has really inspired me. Although there are still many challenges waiting for me, these setbacks won’t hurt my confidence and will push me to study harder.
Nothing is impossible for willing hearts and I believe, in the future, I can fly as high as I wish to.
thank you.
