Good morning everyone!
My name is Jie Lidi. Today, my topic is: “Confidence”. As we all know, failure is the mother of success. But What I want to say is that success is the child of confidence. Without confidence, things can become negative and uncomfortable. I remember, during an English class, I wanted to make a sentence using the word "listen". I should have said: "I listen to the Voice of America" but I was too nervous and said "I listen to the Noise of America". Everybody in the class laughed. Since then I wanted to train myself to be confident. Now, confidence makes me brave and courageous. Take this speech for example. I wanted to enter this competition, but I would feel very embarrassed if I made mistakes. Just then, I thought about my dream. My dream is to become a scientist when I grow up. If I am not confident, how can I overcome difficulties I face? If I am not confident, how can I succeed in developing myself in the future? I will do it! Today, I am making a speech in public and I feel proud and confident!
I am sure, in the future, with confidence, I will go forward-always forward. Confidence will make my dreams come true!
Thank you!

Good afternoon ladies and Gentlemen,
I believe that humanism is about kindness and caring for people in need.
I believe the role of humanism in today’s technological world is to guide technological development to respond to human need in a benevolent way.
In 20-- I was in Yushu during that terrible earthquake. I experienced the full horror of buildings falling and people being trapped. I witnessed the quick response from modern technology when people inside yushu called people outside for help with their mobile phones. Very soon the whole world was responding whole heartedly. After only 5 hours, there was another sound- this time it was helicopters bringing doctors, medical supplies, and the facilities to evacuate the wounded to hospital.
Recent advances in earthquake detection and rescue technology have been developed in response to the need to save lives quickly.
Consider advances in green food technology, guided by the need for clean natural food and to protect the environment;
Advances in water conservation and purification, guided by the need for clean drinking water and for crops and livestock;
advances in delivering education to everyone, especially the use of video and the internet for distance learning;
advances in medicine, especially affordable medicine for AIDS sufferers in Africa;
and advances in building technology guided by the need to keep people safe and warm.
All these are the result of responding to human needs with kindness and caring and guiding technology for the benefit of mankind.
When I think about the world of advanced technology today, I think of my home, the remote and harsh environment of the Tibetan Plateau, and farmers living in tents with solar energy that they use to power their lights, TV, computers and to improve their lifestyle. I think of farmers talking on their mobile phones, discussing the weather patterns, the cost of food, community news and events. They even talk about Steve Jobs. The train to Lhasa, itself a wonderful engineering feat, brings modern medicine and education to these remote areas. The communities are now interlinked and connected, one of the most basic human needs.
Human beings have a need to be connected, to be safe to be cared for in times of trouble and hardship.
The development of technology must be guided by these needs. If this is not so, then the development of technology is in the hands of mean and, greedy people. The focus of technological development would be wars and weapons, fraud the misuse of information, and the exploitation of people, such as cheap labor.
It can only be humanism which provides the guidance we all need for a better world.
And it is you, who have the responsibility to use the technology wisely, to spread the kindness and caring.
How to be a civilized citizenCivilization is a ship that can sail the ocean carrying you to find the sun every morning; Civilization is a bridge that allows people all over the world create a better home; civilization, it is five thousand years the Chinese nation's traditional virtue . Therefore, we must do in many ways: do not spit, throw scraps of paper, do not take pieces of chalk to play, up and down stairs all right line, see the teacher and take the initiative to greet guests to use Mandarin.
Love flowers, trees and all facilities, not through the green belt. Clean health care. Only do this, or even more, they will not disappoint in school education, live in the community culture, and live in the ancient nation "ceremonies" reputation. I believe that only we walk hand in hand, our collective respect and in a civilized, is not difficult. So now, from ourselves and from side to start, let us to the "civilized" the end of the move!

Dear Editor,
Recently graffiti has become more noticeable in my college. I feel quite annoyed at them, especially when some of my classmates praise them as a kind of so-called art. Confronted with this impolite phenomenon, I can’t help asking myself: what is wrong with today’s teenagers?
In my opinion, graffiti is a form of vandalism. They are a mess and are ugly to look at. Meanwhile, walls are public places, and they should not be used to express personal views and feelings。
I really think vandalism should be stopped, and those who refuse to stop this bad practice should be punished. We should clear away these ugly expressions and drawings so that our college may return to its true self--a clean, quiet place for study, teaching and research。
